The Opportunity

A premium countryside resort in North Devon is looking for a passionate and ambitious Junior Sous Chef to join its growing kitchen brigade.

This is an excellent opportunity for a talented chef looking to take the next step in their career within a quality-driven hospitality environment that genuinely values its people.

The resort continues to invest heavily in both its food offering and guest experience, with food and beverage sitting at the heart of the business. The kitchen delivers across multiple dining outlets, weddings, events and wider resort operations using fresh, seasonal ingredients.

What stood out during our visit was the culture. The leadership team are approachable, supportive and genuinely invested in creating an environment where people can thrive and develop. Staff retention is strong, managers have an open-door approach and there is a real focus on maintaining a positive work-life balance.

The Role

Working closely with the Head Chef and Sous Chef, you will support the day-to-day running of the kitchen whilst helping to maintain consistently high standards across all food operations.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong organisational skills, a calm approach during busy service periods and the ability to lead by example within the kitchen brigade.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Head Chef and Sous Chef with daily kitchen operations
  • Preparing and delivering high-quality dishes to consistently high standards
  • Supervising and mentoring junior members of the kitchen team
  • Assisting with stock control, ordering and minimising food waste
  • Maintaining excellent food hygiene and health & safety standards
  • Contributing ideas for seasonal menus and specials
  • Helping to create a positive, professional and team-focused kitchen culture
  • Stepping into leadership responsibilities in the absence of senior chefs

This is a busy and varied role within a premium resort environment, offering excellent exposure across multiple food operations and service styles.

About You

We're keen to speak with chefs who can demonstrate:

  • Previous experience as a Chef de Partie or Junior Sous Chef within a hotel, restaurant or resort environment
  • A genuine passion for fresh, seasonal food and quality presentation
  • The ability to work calmly under pressure within a busy kitchen
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A positive attitude and willingness to continue learning and developing
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A hands-on and supportive approach to leadership

Experience within a multi-outlet hotel or resort environment would be advantageous, although attitude, work ethic and passion are equally important.

Why Join?

This is a business where people are genuinely valued and supported. The successful candidate will join a stable and welcoming kitchen team within a resort that has ambitious growth plans and a strong reputation for both guest experience and staff culture.

The business is committed to developing its people and creating genuine long-term career opportunities, making this an excellent move for an ambitious chef looking to progress within hospitality.

Set within one of North Devon's most attractive countryside locations, this role offers the opportunity to combine career development with an excellent quality of life.
